Physiotherapy

Use-cases

If functional mobility is disrupted, isometric exercises may be employed by a physical therapist to help strengthen muscles around the joint, so that patient progresses in their rehab and returns to the previous level of activity and function.

Isometric muscular contractions are the preferred exercises to perform
when muscle cannot contract to move the joint or when a neuromuscular input to a specific muscle needs to be increased.

A muscles may be safely contracted with the help of isometrics while the surgical incision or scar tissue remains intact and undisturbed. Isometric exercises could help strengthen the muscles in a very specific range of motion around a joint.

Arthritis could be aggravated by muscles moving joints through the full range of motion. As people with arthritis perform isometric exercises and improve their strength, they may progress to other types of strength training, which may help reduce pain and improve physical function.

When other exercise forms are impossible or dangerous due to frailty, isometric training may help treating musculoskeletal injuries of athletes.
